GTA 6 on PS5

Grand Theft Auto VI is confirmed for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, with a launch date of May 26, 2026. The PS5 release is one of two day-one console SKUs — alongside Xbox Series X|S — and is the only platform on which Rockstar has shown the game running publicly through its two official trailers. No PC version has been announced.

Confirmed PS5 platform details

PlayStation 5 was listed as a launch platform when Rockstar Games published the Trailer 1 product page on December 4, 2023, and the listing has been maintained on the official site since. The platform line on the Grand Theft Auto VI product page reads “PlayStation 5” and “Xbox Series X|S” only, with no additional SKUs.12

There is no separate “PS5 Pro Edition” of the game. Like other current cross-generation Rockstar titles, GTA VI is expected to ship as a single PS5 application that the console runs in an enhanced mode on PS5 Pro hardware. Rockstar has not published a specification sheet for either mode as of May 2026.

Graphics modes and performance

Rockstar has not released a technical breakdown of PS5 graphics modes, target resolution, or framerate for Grand Theft Auto VI. Both official trailers were rendered as fixed video and are not representative of in-engine performance under player control. Statements about “60fps performance mode” or specific resolutions circulating on social media are unsourced and not confirmed by Rockstar or Sony.2

Comparable Rockstar releases — Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) and the GTA V “Expanded and Enhanced” current-gen port (2022) — shipped with separate Fidelity and Performance presets on PS5. A similar structure for GTA VI is plausible but unconfirmed.

DualSense features

Sony’s DualSense controller provides haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a built-in microphone and speaker, all of which are standard PS5 platform features available to any title. Rockstar has not publicly described how Grand Theft Auto VI uses these inputs. Marketing materials and interviews referencing specific DualSense implementations — for example trigger resistance tied to driving or shooting — have not been issued by Rockstar Games.

Players should treat any pre-launch description of DualSense behaviour in GTA VI as speculation until Rockstar or PlayStation publishes detail.

Sony marketing partnership

Take-Two Interactive has historically partnered with Sony Interactive Entertainment on marketing for Grand Theft Auto launches. The 2013 launch of GTA V, the 2014 current-gen re-release, and the 2022 Expanded and Enhanced edition each carried PlayStation-branded promotional placements in selected territories.

For Grand Theft Auto VI, neither Rockstar Games nor Sony has announced a formal exclusivity or marketing-partnership deal. The two official trailers do not carry a PlayStation logo bumper. Take-Two’s investor communications have treated the game as a multi-platform launch without referencing platform-specific commercial arrangements.3

Pre-order and edition information

Rockstar has not detailed Standard, Deluxe, or Collector’s editions for the PS5 SKU. Retailer pre-order listings appearing before an official Rockstar Newswire announcement should be treated as placeholders. The PlayStation Store entry on PlayStation.com is the canonical source for digital pre-order availability and pricing in each region.

What is confirmed:

  • One launch SKU on PlayStation 5
  • Released May 26, 2026
  • No backwards-compatible PS4 version
  • Published by Rockstar Games, a Take-Two Interactive label2

What has not been confirmed:

  • Retail price for the PS5 edition
  • Existence and contents of any premium edition
  • Bundle hardware (e.g. a GTA VI-themed PS5 console or controller)
  • File size and required SSD space
  • PlayStation Plus or PS5 Pro feature integrations beyond stock platform behaviour

What to watch next

The most likely sources of further PS5-specific information ahead of launch are Rockstar Games Newswire posts, PlayStation Blog editorial features, and Take-Two Interactive earnings commentary. Any genuinely new technical detail — graphics modes, DualSense usage, install size — will originate from one of those channels rather than from third-party leak accounts. This page will be updated when Rockstar publishes a platform-level specification or pre-order details for the PS5 edition.
